The Three Realms of Leadership

Jeff Booher has released a mini ebook on Lulu.com. The Three Realms of Leadership: Leading as Prophet, Priest, and King explores different leadership functions using the three roles that Jesus operated in when He walked on the earth.

In the prophet role, the leader sees the vision and is the seat of creativity. In the priest role, he communicates the vision and develops the people who must run with it. In the king role the leader is the administrator who manages the organization.

One way to create leadership teams is to divide responsibilities in terms of the functions of the three realms of leadership. This can be helpful if one leader who is strong in two realms sees a possibility to covenant with someone who is strong in the other realm to create a leadership team that covers all three realms. If implemented well, this can be much more effective than the leader leaving an area of leadership without adequate coverage. This is not the only way to divide leadership responsibilities, but it is a natural way because the three realms differ in terms of basic motivational gifts.

The mini ebook is an excerpt of The Emergence of Love Leadership: A Working Model.

The Emergence of Love Leadership

Spiritually squeamish beware!

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,
they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14

Love Leadership is Spirit-led leadership employed by those who love the art of leading. The Love Leader, as an artist, works in the medium of the gifts of his team members, using the principles of covenant relationships as his tools. His masterpiece is an organization that accomplishes God's purposes in both the team members and the organization. Love Leadership is about influencing others to operate in the gifts and walk in the paths that God has ordained for his people. When love leadership is employed, people love leadership.

Love Leadership recognizes that leader and follower roles are not fixed. One person may lead another in one situation and then, at a different time or on a different task, the leader and follower roles may be reversed. This concept is often expressed in an analogy to the flight formations of migrating geese. In the "V" formation, the leader takes the brunt of the wind resistance. When the leader gets tired, he moves to the back of the formation to rest and another goose leads for a while. The team leader is sometimes changed to give rest to a weary leader. Leadership may also change when team tasks or conditions change in such a way that another individual is more suited for the leadership role. Of course, these transitions can be problematic if the changing leaders are not mature enough to gracefully change roles.

There is no set formula for love leadership. Love leadership is essentially acting as a son of God and as His agent here on earth. Jesus is our example of God's character and we are to emulate Him. Love Leadership is leadership based on the strongest of God's principles.

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:35-40
